Retrofit vs New-Construction Windows

The key difference is not simply the product label; it is how much of the existing assembly is retained and how directly the new window integrates with the rough opening and surrounding weather barrier.

Retrofit approach

Often retains more of the existing frame or opening conditions. It may reduce disruption when the retained components are sound and compatible.

New-construction/full-frame approach

Removes more of the old assembly and may expose the rough opening. It is often considered when there is damage, changed opening size, or a remodel that already involves wall finishes.
