Window Leaks: What to Check Before Replacement

Water showing up at a window does not prove the window itself is the entry point. Rain can travel through wall or roof assemblies and become visible at the opening.

Possible entry paths

Failed perimeter sealant, blocked drainage, flashing defects, cracks in surrounding finishes, roof runoff, and deteriorated window components can all contribute.

Why diagnosis comes first

Installing a new window without correcting the actual water path can leave the leak unresolved. Staining, timing, wind direction and exterior conditions can help narrow the source.

When full-frame access helps

If there is evidence of hidden deterioration or recurring leakage around the opening, a full-frame replacement may provide better access to inspect and rebuild the water-management details.
